Velocity of viscous fingers in miscible displacement: Comparison with analytical models

چکیده

The paper investigates the linear growth of mixing zone, in a pessimistic scenario, during polymer slug injection into water reservoir. velocities front and boundaries zone are numerically analytically studied as key parameters characterizing miscible displacement. Using two different numerical methods (finite volumes finite elements), impact size, reservoir dimensions, Peclet number, viscosity curve shape on corresponding examined. Notwithstanding realization solution by computational schemes, simulation results coincide with sufficient accuracy. obtained compared theoretical estimates within transverse flow equilibrium approximation Koval model. Based comparison pattern, recommendations presented use specific analytical for estimating rate depending characteristics polymer.

Dynamic Scaling in Miscible Viscous Fingering

We consider dynamic scaling in gravity driven miscible viscous fingering. We prove rigorous one-sided bounds on bulk transport and coarsening in regimes of physical interest. The analysis relies on comparison with solutions to one-dimensional conservation laws, and new scale-invariant estimates. Our bounds on the size of the mixing layer are of two kinds: a naive bound that is sharp in the abse...

Visualizing Ensembles of Viscous Fingers

This paper presents a topological data analysis framework based on persistent homology and Morse complexes for the visualization and analysis of ensemble data-sets representing viscous fingers. Our approach quantitatively corroborates the classical description of viscous fingers. A systematic analysis across several data resolutions indicates converging statistics as the resolution increases.

Analytical and variational numerical methods for unstable miscible displacement flows in porous media

The miscible displacement of one fluid by another in a porous medium has received considerable attention in subsurface, environmental and petroleum engineering applications. When a fluid of higher mobility displaces another of lower mobility, unstable patterns referred to as viscous fingering may arise. Their physical and mathematical study has been the object of numerous investigations over th...
